Ovaj blog je nastao takoreći slučajno. Počeo je da nastaje kao beleška na margini bloga u pripremi (na sasvim drugu temu), ali zbog ekstenzivnog citiranja, beleška se ugojila do mere da može bude standalone blog.
Nedavno sam odgledao predavanje dr Danijela Deneta (Daniel Dennet), koji se uz Dokinsa (Dawkins) može svrstati u prve ešalone ateističke misli danas (interesantno je da u jednom intevjuu kaže da ne voli taj izraz: I don't like the term atheist because that usually mean somebody who's going around and upbraiding people trying to force them to listen to his arguments why there's no god. I don't think there's god, so I'm atheist, but I don't make deal of it, I think it's not that I passionately believe there's no god. Of course there's no god, but so what?). Elem, na kraju tog predavanja, u kome je izložio osnovne teze svoje knjige Breaking the Spell - Religion as a Natural Phenomenon, kaže sledeće:
...but there is one policy proposal that I do propose and I'm deadly serious about it, and I want to spread it widely as I can. And it's this: We should have more education on world religion in schools, for all children. In public schools, private schools and in home schooling. We should have national curriculum on world religions. Now, history, creed, ritual, music, symbols, and ethical commands and prohibitions, all of it. And how we are going to produce this curriculum?
In collaboration with representatives of various religious groups to be sure. They get to say what they want to be in curriculum, but we get to look closely to make sure that included is anything that is manifestly true, historical fact they might wish were not true or they might wish not to be known. But we are going to allow them to put whatever great things religions have done, fine. Just they can't just that. They got to include bad things too. This is going to be factual not evaluative, it's not going to be proselytising, it's going to be just facts.
Now, look we already do this, we have. We say you got to teach your kid reading, writing, arithmetic, American history and I think we should also say "and you got to teach them this curriculum on world religions, and as long you teach them that you can teach them anything you want." I'm going to be really libertarian about this, you can indoctrinate your children with any religious doctrine you want as long as you give them this…
… I submit it is such a clear no-brainer extension of principles we all claim to know and love - informed consent. Democracy depends on informed consent. Misinformed consent or ignorant consent is not worth coin flip.
